How Often Should You Update Your Aadhaar Card Photo? UIDAI Guidelines Explained

In India, residents need to have several important documents for everyday activities. These include the voter card, ration card, PAN card, passport, driving license, and the Aadhaar card, which is the most important among them. Around 90% of the population in India has an Aadhaar card.
The Aadhaar card is essential for many tasks, such as applying for school or college admissions and accessing government benefits. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues Aadhaar cards. If there are any mistakes in the information provided, individuals can correct them, including updating their photo. Now, let’s talk about how often the photo on an Aadhaar card should be updated.
There isn’t a specific requirement for how often you should update the photo on your Aadhaar card; it’s completely up to you. However, many people have had their Aadhaar cards made quite a while ago. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recommends that everyone should update their Aadhaar card photo at least once every ten years. For example, if a child received their Aadhaar card at the age of 5, they should update their biometric information, including their photo, when they turn 15
To update your photo on your Aadhaar card, simply visit the closest Aadhaar center. You can even schedule an appointment online for convenience. When you arrive, complete an update form and submit it to the staff. They will capture a new photo for your Aadhaar card and provide you with an update request number. There is a Rs 100 fee for this service. Your updated photo should appear on your Aadhaar card in a few days.
